A Talk by Barbara Boganini on Tuscan Connections in American Music: Giacomo Puccini, Amedeo Bassi, the US Tours of La Fanciulla del West, and the Reception of Italian Culture in the early 1900s in the United States, when Enrico Caruso was an acclaimed star of the Metropolitan Opera. Caruso premiered the role of Dick Johnson at the Met on December 10, 1910, Arturo Toscanini conducting. Bassi performed in US tours of Fanciulla, and premiered the same role outside of the US. Rehearsing the new event, Between Two Worlds, premiering at SguardiDanza-Center for the Arts in Montespertoli (Florence, Italy) on May 20, 2017. All original choreographies are by Antonella Bardi, to Dybbuk-inspired compositions by Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein.
